When Sherlock Holmes is trying to get information out of the goose seller, Breckinridge, the goose seller does not want to tell Holmes anything. He gets pretty mad at Holmes. So Holmes tricks him. He bets the goose seller that the particular geese they are talking about were bred in the country and not the city.
