Answer:

Horace Danby kept an eye over the house at Shotover Grange and one day when the servants were out for movie, he saw them keeping the house key. He then took the key and entered the house.

He did so because he wanted to rob the locker so that he would be able to collect enough money for buying expensive and rare books, which he wanted to read,.

Horace Danby was a very smart and experienced thief. He just did one burglary a year; and he prepared for it thoroughly. This year he had set his eyes on Shotover Grange; he studied the house for a long time. He knew about each and everything inside the house. The owners were away; the servants had also gone to movies that day. So, he broke into the house. His intention behind breaking into the house was to rob jewelry, lying in a secure safe.
