Answer:
The following are the reasons which prove that Indian trade had been beneficial for the British during the 17th century :
• Important textiles, fibres like Silk, cotton, jute, wool, spices, gems, pearls, etc. flowed from India to England. This led to shifting of trade centres in the west i.e. India and China during 17th century.
• Also during 17th century proto-industrialisation had started. Also hand-made goods were quite efficiently produced. These goods were transported to India and India acted as a good market for these goods. This increased the income and revenue of the native country that is the England.
• Also the colonial British Government used its political powers to restrict the production of goods in India and maintained prices of goods. This usually profited the British traders and this made British to have trade surplus with India.
• Opium trade proved to be very beneficial for the Britishers. They used to buy the opium cheaply from India and used to sell it costly in other parts of the world.
• India was quite rich in food production and metals like gold and silver and gems. These things were taken to England from India by the use of government powers and also sometimes by the use of force. These metals were usually taken in place of pottery, clothes, textiles, etc.
