How did Indian rulers lose their administrative and military spirit by accepting the Subsidiary Alliance System?

Answer:British forced the states into a subsidiary alliance. According to the terms of this alliance ,Indian rulers were not allowed to have their independent armed forces. They were to be protected by company,but had to pay subsidiary forces that the company was supposed to maintain for the purpose of this protection.

Indians were illiterate at that time and didnt properly knew atministration and military spirit thus they werent able to either know what to do or how to oppose it.... this is one of the main reasons....
