From an economic standpoint, Indians developed a strong desire to become independent as they realised how a foreign power was sending to the home country its natural resources like spices, salt, minerals, cotton, jute etc. To add to Indians' woes was the fact that some of these items were processed in England and exported back to India. This resulted in factories closing down in India, while those in England flourished. Consequently, it ignited the desire for independence.
