» James Mill categorised the history of India into three periods:- Hindu, Muslim and British.

The Hindu society was based on Sanskrit, the Muslim society on Persian and the British society on English. People have to learn these three languages for understanding and communicating.

Eg:-

.» if a person belonging to British society would like to know about the other two society then he or she would have to learn the two languages for communicating.

★More about Division of Time into periods★

» Historians often attempt to divide time into periods on the basis of some major historical event. The event must be of such a nature so as to impact the surrounding civilization resulting in long-lasting demographic, economic and political changes.

In the 19th century, British historians, specially James mill, had divided Indian history into three periods: Hindu, Muslim and British. This division was based on the idea that the religion of rulers determine the history of an area. Such categorisation was misleading in nature as the Hindu period was studied only on the basis of Sanskrit text, the Muslim period on the basis of Persian text and the British period by using English languages sources.
