How did James mill categorise the history of India? What was the wrong with this kind of categorisation

James Mill has divided Indian history into three periods :- Hindu , Muslim and British. This was based on the idea that religion of rulers determined history of an area. This narrow down the scope of understanding the complete history of the times .
