Jane Austen portrayed the women of the 19th century in her novels as quite different to the stereotypes about women at that time.
She portrayed them as being strong, helpful, dedicated, romantic, hard working, but also doing the jobs that were expected to be done by a man.
One of her most famous novels is the novel 'Pride and Prejudice'.
