Answer:

Japan was a developed country before Hiroshima. Before World War 2.

Japan was a large, functional industrial economy before world war 2.

The destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki was a small part of the damage done to Japan during WW2. Those were just two of forty Japanese cities that were completely destroyed. There were over thirty more cities that were severely damaged. The entire population of Japan was suffering from several years of malnutrition.

After the war, the Japanese people did an unbelievable amount of hard work to re-build their country. They were given extensive support by the United States.

As Robert Mashburn points out, the Japanese industrialists had the foresight to follow American quality expert Edward Deming, leading to a reputation for quality products that further boosted their economy and helped them take a major share of the world market for cars.
