How did Kari save a drowning boy along with the narrator?

Kari pushed his friend (narrator) into the stream and the narrator put the boy near the bank of the stream. Kari pushed his frinend or his master in the stream that he can take the drowning boy out but when he saw that his friend also cant take the boy out he helped him (the narrator) to take the boy out.
