Lord Krishna not only helped him by food but also helped by wealth. When Sudama had gone to Vrindavana then he could not requested to Lord Krishna for some wealth but, after returning he had found his little hut as a place and with full of treasures and he realized that everything had done by Lord Krishna.

Answer:
Krishna jokingly asked him to serve a snack as he was a guest (guests are supposed to be treated as gods). Sudama, despite his poverty, went inside and got the last grains of beaten rice (he remembered beaten rice is Krishna's favourite). Krishna ate the snack with relish and left with pleasantries.
