Mahatma Gandhi proved that power does not necessarily form the barrel of the gun in the following ways:-
1. He introduced a novel method of mass agitation called Satyagraha.
2. Satyagraha emphasized on the power of truth and the need to search for truth. It suggested that if the cause was true and the struggle was against injustice, then violence was not necessary to fight the oppressor. This could be done by appealing to the conscience of the people, including the oppressor, and make them see the truth instead of forcing them to accept the truth by violence.
3. Gandhiji organised Satyagrahas as well as other movements to fight the British opressors in India without any violence. For example, The Non-Cooperation and the Civil Disobedience were non-violent movements to fight the British.
4. Mahatma Gandhi never encouraged the use of violence and even condemned it. For example, Gandhiji called off the Non Cooperation Movement in 1922 because he felt it was becoming violent in many places.
5. Gandhiji, moreover, practiced many other non violent methods to fight oppression. For example, he himself cleaned toilets to dignify the work of the Bhangi, organised Satyagrahas to allow Dalits entrance to wells, temples, ponds, etc, and said that Swaraj would not come in a hundred years if the Dalits were oppressed.
