Srilanka adopted majoritarism to establish sinhala supremacy. In 1956 an act was passed to recognise sinhala as official language,thus disregarding tamil. The government followed policies that favoured sinhalas for university positions and government jobs. This made tamils to revolt for their rights and hence it turned into civil war
