QUESTION)

How did Mandela understanding of freedom change with age and experience?

ANSWER)

When Nelson Mandela was a young boy, as long as he abided the rules of his tribe and obeyed his father, he was happy and satisfied. It meant all freedom to him.

Then, as a student, he desired to be late out at night and go wherever he wanted. He only wanted freedom for himself.

When he got married, he wanted a good job to look after his family and do well.

But then, he realised that his freedom was taken waah already. Not only, his freedom, but the freedom of all his brothers and sisters who looked like him. He yearned a desire for his people and country. He understood that he has to fight and struggle for dignity, respect and freedom and changed his Outlook and perspective towards life.

Thanks !
