When Mandela was a small child freedom meant to him that he was free to play to jump in rivers and ponds, and could do things that a small child wish to, with his growing to a student freedom now meant to go out all night and no one disturbs him in this work by asking questions, and when he became fit to job after his studies freedom meant for him to earn good and he should be free to live his life..
Hope it helps you

Answer:
previously his understanding over freedom is to run in the fields , have ride on slow moving bulls and to read what he wants .... but when he grew up he noticed that his freedom is already being taken away... at that time he understand the real freedom .... later he understand that the freedom is to get married ... have family and children ... and to be treated as inferior ..
