Nelson Mandela's understanding of freedom Change with age and experience in the following way-

1#as a boy-When Nelson Mandela was a small boy he always thought that playing around his mother's hut in the village and to swim in the clear steam of water of village is the real freedom.

2#as a young adult-he thought that real freedom is to stay out at night and to read what gives him pleasure.

3#as a working adult-he thought that real freedom is when a person is living a lawful life , abiding all the rules.

but later when he grew up and gained more experience of life , he realised that all the things to whom he was considering as real freedoms were transistory freedoms.real freedom is when the person is not barred from doing anything and he can live his life according to his rules without any fear.

With age and experience, Mandela understood the real meaning of freedom. As a young boy, he thought that he was born free and believed that as long as he obeyed his father and abided by the customs of his tribe, he was free in every possible manner. As he grew older, freedom to raise a family and freedom to earn livelihood started dominating his thoughts. Gradually he realised that he was selfish during his boyhood. He slowly understood that it was not just his freedom that was being curtailed, but the freedom of all blacks. It was the freedom from fear and prejudice. Age and experience widened his perspective of freedom.
