Many Indian Entrepreneurs survived despite tight economic controls imposed by the British government because of the following reasons :-

1) When Indian businessmen began to set up industries in the late 19th century, they avoided competing with Manchester goods.

2) As the Swadeshi movement reached its peak, nationalists advised people to boycott foreign cloth, and it worked.

3) Industrial groups organised themselves to protect their collective interests too. They pressurised the government to increase the tariff protection and grant other concessions.

4) When the export of yarn to China declined because of Chinese and Japanese yarns, the Indians began producing cloth.

5) Many industrialists became the junior players in the trade to China and earned profits.

Hope this helps !

Indian entrepreneurs survived despite economic controls imposed by the British government by -

  1. Many Indian merchants became junior partners with the British by providing finance, shipping consignments and buying supplies. Indian merchants were particularly active collaborators with the British in the opium trade with China.
  2. Indian merchants traded within India or with neighbouring countries like Burma, Middle East and East Africa.
  3. Indian merchants started setting up their own enterprises in industries like cotton textile once opportunities for investment opened up.
