When mara found that the goddess wanted to destroy the entire kingdom by over flowing the river veda, he was totally disturbed. He pleaded goddess to spare the kingdom. But she was in a wreckless mood of distruction. Finally, mara persuaded her to give him some time so taht he can run to the capital and inform the king about it. The goddess agreed to wait until mara returns. Mara explained all this to the king and gave a suggestion. He pleaded to the king to execute him, so that he never returns to the goddess. This would surely save the people and the entire kingdom. The king had to accept the suggestion. This act of mara saved the lake as well as the kingdom because, the goddess had to keep her promise until mara returns. Such was the sacrifice of Mara.
