The sailors we're fickle minded and utterly superstitious. At first they blamed the ancient Mariner for killing the bird but later they declared it a wise act when the things went favorably good. However again when they faced difficulties... They again blamed him

The Mariners felt very sad and upset after the death of Albatross. They were of the thought that the bird was the one responsible for making the breeze blow. At first, the Mariners were sad and angry for killing the bird as they thought that the bird had brought the winds which have helped the ship to come out of the sea which was full of ice.
