Martin was a scrupulous follower of Catholic faith

On his visit to Rome he was shocked By the luxurious life of the officials of the church

He wrote a pamphlet against sail of indulgence and the corrupt pratices

He listed out ninety give points and pasted them on the church door n Wittenberg

These points became the famous Nineyty five these

These were printed and circulated widely

The attempts of the church to withdraw his criticism failed and pope leoX issued a papal bull exocommunicating him

He signalled his revolt by burning he papal bull.

He argued that it was by faith alone one can attain salvation.

He put the doctrine of justification of faith.

Not only peasents supported this but many princes also supported his.

Thus this Reformation marked the first successful break from the church and establishment of Protestant church
