  • Megasthenes is a Greek ambassador who lived in the court of Chandragupta Maurya.
  • He wrote a book ‘Indica’ which describes about the administration and society during the time of Mauryas.
  • His book also describes about India. He says that India is a country with a  quadrilateral shape having many rivers and fertile plains.
  • The country is surrounded by ocean on southern and eastern sides.
