how did Mendeleev arrange the elements he left empty places in his periodic table why explain the limitations of Mendeleev classification<br />
Answers
Explanation:
The Russian scientist DIMITRI MENDELEEV developed the periodic table of elements in increasing order of thier atomic masses. Isotopes were discovered long time after MENDELEEV put forth the periodic table. As isotopes have same chemical properties but different atomic masses a challenge was posed in placing them in Mendeleev's periodic table. Based on chemical properties theu were to be placed in same group while based on atomic masses they were to be placed in different groups. Hence there was no definite place for isotopes.
Mendeleev's Classification
Explanation:
According To Mendeleev periodic law
The Properties of elements are periodic function of their atomic in this there are seven periods and eight groups.
In 8 groups , seven elements are of normal elements and one of transition elements.
“He left gaps in his table for unknown elements”
He actually thought that when these elements will be discovered later they can be placed in table without disturbing the whole periodic table .
Limitations
1. It doesn't explain about Position of isotopes .
2. It shows wrong order of atomic masses
3. The Position of hydrogen not justified .
4. In it some dissimilar elements are grouped together while some elements are placed in different groups
5. The rare earth metals that is Lanthanides and actinides are not included in main body.
