With the decline of the Mughal Empire, many artists and painters moved to the Rajput courts of Rajasthan and foothills of the Himalayas i.e. present Himachal Pradesh. Thus, developed two special traditions, or Gharanas of Rajputana, and the Kangra schools of miniature paintings.
