How did mrs dorling and narrator recognize each other?

At first when narrator came to see Mrs. Dorling refuse to recognise narrator because she thinks that narrator came to take her things with her which her mother gave Mrs. Dorling during war. So, that they cannot be destroyed.

When narrator came to get her things back from her. She don't allow her to came in house. Because she thinks she will take all the things with het back. And she don't want to lose that things. She never thought that narrator will came to get her things back.
