It was Louisa Mebbin who drew Mrs Packletide's attention to the fact that the bullet had killed the goat instead of killing the tiger. The tiger had died of heart failure caused by the loud noise of the firing. Mrs. Packletide was pardonably annoyed at the discovery. However, she was happy to have the dead tiger in her possession. She was excited about the luncheon-party and the media coverage she was expecting.
