Helen loved visiting museums and art stores. They were a source of pleasure and inspiration for her. She derived genuine pleasure from touching great works of art or the faces of gods and heroes. A medallion of Homer was hanging on the wall of Helen's study room. She liked to touch it. While doing so, she would recall some of Homer's lines. Helen loved going to the theater. When somebody described the play being acted on the stage, she felt as if she were a part of the play. She also met some great actors and actresses and found the meeting quite magical. Meeting Miss Ellen Terry and Sir Henry Irving was an unforgettable experience for her. Helen felt proud to count Mr. Jafferson among her friends. He was a great actor and had played 'Rip Van Winkle'. Once Helen went to see him in Boston and he acted before her some striking parts from the play 'The Rivals' and also from 'Rip Van Winkle'. She remembered that she went to the theater for the first time when she was 12 years old. She went with Miss Sullivan to see 'The Prince and the Pauper'. After the play she also met an actress named Elsie Leslie.
