1. Royal monopolies were imposed by the Qutub Shahi Rulers on the sale of textiles, spices and other items.
2. It was to prevent the trade completely from passing into the hands of various East India Companies.
3. There was a great big competition amongst the traders which made the city popular and prosperous.
4. As the Mughals started extending their empire towards Golconda, the governor of Golconda played with the Dutch and the English and set them up against each other.
5. The Governor Mir Juma was the representative of the Mughals and also  Merchant. Mir Juma is the same person who set Dutch and English against each other.
6. The Mughal concentration on Masulipatnam forced the other European Countries to look for other alternatives.
7. Then came a new law passed by the East India Company which made the trade impossible.
8. It said that it was not sufficient if the port and connections with the hinterland, it should also combine with political, commercial and administrative roles.
9. Masulipatnam lost both it's merchants and prosperity and declined in the course of 18th century.
10.Today it's not more than a little-dilapidated town.

THEREFORE IN THIS WAY, MASULIPATNAM LOST ITS IMPORTANCE.
