Explanation:

Sphere of Influence

Abyssinia was in the European sphere of influence (Britain and France controlled a large amount of Africa) - meant that it was impossible to ignore the failure (unlike Manchuria) so the failure of the League to control Italy really signalled the end of the League as a peacekeeping body.

Britain and France

Britain and France acted in their own interests and this destroyed the League from within - they wanted to keep Italy as an ally and not upset her (they had signed the Stresa Front with Italy in 1935).

Sanctions

After Mussolini launched the full scale invasion in October 1935 the League only imposed limited sanctions. They did not ban oil exports or coal, steel or iron - as this would hinder British trade during the Depression (said coal it would cost the jobs of 30,000 British miners!). This showed that the main members of the League were self-interested. France produced iron and steel and did not want to lose money by stopping trading. Oil was supplied by USA which was outside the League and the USA could not be guaranteed to help the League by refusing to sell oil as she needed the money due to the Depression.
