Answer:
There are a lot of works on Gandhi. As it is not possible to review
all of them, we try to critically examine only some. According to the
nature of the works we have divided them into four separate sections:
Nationalist, Marxist, Subaltern and Other works, i. e. which do not come
under these categories. The division is made on the basis of the broad
framework within which these works were written. The works of the
admirers are not dealt with as we feel that it is not of much use for the
present work.
SECTION-A: NATIONALIST PERSPECTIVES
Nationalist history of India was started as a reaction against the
imperialist historiography. Till 1947 the nationalist school contributed
very little to the study of the national movement because the colonial
authorities never allowed them to express their anti- colonial feeling. So
they had to confine themselves to the glorification of the Indian past.
Even after 1947, however, the nationalist school has failed to make a
major contribution at the analytical or historiographic level.
