Non cooperation movement started with the participation of middle class people in cities :
1.Students left government controlled schools and colleges. Teachers and headmasters resigned from their jobs. Lawyers gave up their legal practices.
2.Council elections were boycotted.
3.Merchants and traders refused to trade with foreign goods.
4.Liquor shops picketed and foreign goods burnt in huge bonfire.
5.The value of foreign goods came down from 102 crore to 57 crore.
6.People now started wearing khadi.
But the problem was that khadi was expensive than mill produced cloth and poor people could not afford to buy khadi. Thus, slowly people started purchasing mill produced cloths.
Also their were no Indian institutions were people can do their jobs, they were slow to come up.Thus people started joining their work.
