Answer:

Explanation:

Introduction :

Non-Cooperation movement started by Gandhi's Idea in his book Hind Swaraj.

He told that Britishers were ruling India because Indians were cooperating. So if Indians would stop cooperating with them, within almost an year, we would attain Swaraj (Freedom).

Timeline :

Mahatma Gandhi convinced other leaders of the need to start Non-cooperation movement in the support of Khilafat (Spiritual and Religious leader of Muslims) as well as Swaraj in the Calcutta Session in September 1920. [Movement would unfold in stages]

Adoption of Non-Cooperation movement took place at Nagpur Session in December 1920.

Non-cooperation Khilafat movement began in January 1921,

And was called off by Gandhi himself after witnessing the violence near Gorakhpur in February 1922, Famously known as Chauri-Chaura Incident.

Middle Class People :

They boycotted all the institutions related to Britain, i.e. They boycotted Schools, Colleges, Services and even elections.

[Exception : Justice Party of Madras didn't boycott elections]

There were some exceptions, such as

Khadi was expensive, And there was no alternative indigenous institutions.

Impact on Economy :

After February 1922, (End of NCKM) There occured a huge economic depression. Agriculture prices fell.

Countryside was in turmoil as peasants were not able to sell their harvest and pay money.
