the cooperation movement start in the middle class:

• the movement in the cities: the movement started with thousands of students left government controlled school and colleges, headmaster and teachers resigned.

• lawyers: they gave up their legal practice and boycotted courts.

• boycott of council elections: the council elections were boycotted in most provinces except Madras

• Swadeshi: foreign goods were boycotted, liquor shops were picketed, and foreign cloth burnt in huge bonfires.

• impact of industries: in many places merchant and traders refused to trade in foreign goods.
