Munshi Premchand was a legendary writer of the pre-independence era. He used to write mostly about the poor conditions of peasants. The poor peasants had very low income that was just way below what they had to return to zamindars. The zamindars used to exploit the poor farmers in the name of lagan. There many other writers who had felt the pain of that era and had written stories or poems about it.
