How did Odin 'die' if he was a God, and hence, immortal?

he was not god just asguardian which could control some natural factors like water ,lightetc
and similarly her wife died in previous film for same!

The gods in actual Norse mythology are not immortal: they stay young by eating the apples of youth, but otherwise they can age and die and be killed. Baldur is a good example.

Marvel follows that thinking. The Asgardians are powerful and very long-lived, but they clearly note that they aren’t gods. They are decidedly not immortal: they will die. And Hela slaughtering the Asgardian army shows that they can be killed.
