How did our ancestors view large cities? Why were they satisfied with small village?

That must have been just as today: Some people prefere to live in big cities, because they provide more possibilities in jobs, entertainment, shopping etc. Other people prefere the peacefull countryside, and the closedness of fewer people.

Whenever a run into cities started, it had very logical reasons. People looked for more savety in war times in the cities. There was no food in the countryside caused by natural or political or economic changes.
