How did people react to rowlatt act

rowlatt act hurriedly passed through the imperial legislative council despite the united opposition of indian member.
Indian protected against it as it gave the government enormous power to repress political activities.
it also allowed detention of political prisoners without trail for two years.

1. On 6th april 1919 Gandhiji started non violence civil disobidience movement nation wide to oppose the act.

2. Rallies were conducted,shops were closed down, rail workers went on strike . There were widespread attacks on bank,post offices.

3.  The government repressed the nationalists ,and general Dyer took the command and martial law was imposed
