Due to the regional adjustments mandated by the successful Allies at the conclusion of World War II in 1945, Poland's geographic center of significance moved towards the west and the re-defined Polish lands who mainly suffered their historic multi-ethnic nature through the extermination, expulsion, and movement of several ethnic groups during and after the war. By the late 1980s, the Polish reform campaign Solidarity became critical in bringing about a peaceful transformation from a communist republic to a capitalist industrial system and liberal parliamentary government. This method resulted in the conception of the modern Polish state: the Third Polish Republic, established in 1989. In 1989–1991, Poland involved in a democratic transformation which put an end to the Polish People's Republic and led to the establishment of a democratic administration, known as the Third Polish Republic.
