- The great Explorer - Marco Polo in 1295 , return to Italy after many years of exploration in China.
- He brought the knowledge of printing back with him.
- Now Italians started producing Books with wood blocks and soon the technology spread to other parts of Europe.
- Luxury editions were still handwritten on very expensive vellum, made for the aristocratic circles and rich libraries.
- The merchant students in the university towns bought the cheaper printed copies.
- As the demand for the books increased the book sellers all over the Europe began exporting books too many different countries.
- Book Fairs were held at different places.
- Slowly and gradually woodblock printing became more and more popular.
- By the early 15th century woodblocks were being widely used in Europe to print different things.
