The Puritan Movement began in England, when the Puritans broke away from the official state church. During the English Civil War, the Puritans seized their chance and gained an advantage in Parliament, where they were able to influence change in the country. When the Royal Family returned to power, however, this changed. After losing their power, many Puritans moved to New England to be able to worship the way that they pleased.
