The Indian Sepoys were looking for an opportunity to revolt against the ‘British rule’. The ‘Indian soldiers’ were unhappy with the ‘Enfield rifle’ that the British government wanted their soldiers to use. It contained cartridges which needed to be ‘bitten off’ before it was put into the rifle. The grease of the cartridges contained ‘beef and pig’ fat.
This made the Hindu as well as the Muslim Sepoys very angry. They felt that the ‘British’ were trying to destroy their religion purposefully. Therefore they decided to revolt against the British.
