zimbabwe attained independence from white minority rule in 1880. since then the country has been ruled by ZANU-PF, the party thet led the freedom struggle. robert mugabe is a leader of zanu party. he has ruled the country since independence. elections were held regularly and ZANU-PF would always win. president mugabe used unfair practices in elections.
he established his dictorial rule in Zimbabwe after independence in the following ways:
1) over the year his gov. changed the constitution to several times to increase powers of president and make him less accountable
2)opposition party workers are harassed and their meeting disrupted
3) public protests and demonstration against the gov. are declared.
4)there is a law that limits rights to criticise the president.
