mahatma Gandhi found salt as a powerful symbol that cold unite the nation,he sent a letter to viceroy lord Irwin stating eleven demands.one of the demand was to abolish the salt tax as salts are used by both rich and poor and it is an essential item of food.when lord irwin rejected his demands,he decided to lead a civil disobedience movement.he led the salt march and violated their salt law by making salt by boiling sea water.

salt as apoerful symbol to intergrate people together to struggle for freedom.It is the one which is used by all even poor or rich.so everyone started to manufacture salt for their use and did not depend for the Britishers.
