Here is your answer,

=============================================

Scientists figured out that the outer core must be liquid because S waves do not pass through it, but P waves do.

The behavior of P and S waves also indicates that the inner core is solid.

The speed of seismic waves also depends on the density of the material through which they are traveling.

S and P waves are the indicators that help to find out that the outer core is liquid.

  • S and P waves are types of seismic waves.
  • P stands for primary wave. They are the fastest waves to arrive from earthquakes.
  • S stands for secondary wave. it is not fast as compared to the P wave. This only reaches after the P wave.
  • S and P waves are used to find the material in the core.
  • The outer core is liquid.
  • The inner core is solid.
  • This S wave can only travel through solids, not through the liquid.
  • P the wave travels through both solid and liquid.
  • While keeping a seismograph. the entire zone beyond 105 degrees does not receive s waves. This is the shadow zone of S waves.
  • P waves will be absent between the 105-degree and 145-degree zone, away from the epicenter.
  • This can give the inference that the inner core is solid in state and the outer core is liquid.

        This is how S and P waves help scientists.
