bismillah khan made shehnai popular by bringing it to the stage. he would sing in many stages in abroad and also in his own native place. he was the first person to play shehnai in the prestigious lincoln auditorium in usa and to play it in the red fort on independence day in front of jawaharlal nehru and mahatma ...Gandhi

The original Shehnai players were mostly employed in temples. They played the Shehnai before the images at various times of the day. It was also played on North Indian wedding and and every specious occasion. Gradually the Shehnai became very popular .
