Socialism hasn’t spread in Europe or at least pitifully little , there are/have been many political groups/parties who have claimed to be socialist but when you look closer at what they are advocating it’s nothing more than managing capitalism from a reformist view point and nationalisation/mixed economy or state capitalism isn’t socialism.
Socialism spread in Russia because the socialist thought peasants as natural socialists, and believed that this ideology could spread in Russia easily. By the 1870s , socialist ideas spread through europe. To coordinate their effort ,they formed an international body.
