how did some old trading centres lose their glory and became de-urbanised?

De-urbanisation is basically a process by which more and more people leave towns and cities due to reduction of political or commercial importance.

During the late 18th century,the trade centres of machlipatnam,surat,seringapatam were de urbanised as trade was shifted to presidency cities like madras,bombay and calcutta
