The answer would be the second option. Before the advent of railways, all goods were transported by traders and hiring transporters. This was not the fastest mode or the best as they could only carry a limited amount of goods with them. On the other hand, once steam engines came, more and more compartments could be added to tend to more cargo. The introduction of railways was a turning point in the legacy of modes of transportation as it proved to be extremely helpful to both the transport sector and the people (even they used trains to travel).

Hope this helped,,,

vishal03: More cargo could be transported for a relatively lesser price.

Answer:

They could transport many materials or goods at once.

Explanation:

  • Because they could move multiple objects at once, steam locomotives significantly reduced the cost of moving commodities and raw materials while also saving time and space.
  • With numerous facilities that had never been available before, it let passengers to travel quickly and comfortably. Because the steam locomotive was so powerful—even the first steam engines could tow up to thirty cars—freight was easily moved over land.
  • The locomotive created a durable, quick, and affordable method of moving commodities that transformed commercial transportation. When the Central Pacific and Union Pacific were linked in 1869, it became the first transcontinental railway, and the first train on it was the Governor Stanford.

Thus the correct answer is Option B.
