Officers of the INA suspected and often described to their men, the possibility of having to fight the Japanese after having fought the British in order to prevent Japan from exploiting India. But they did not have the men or the military equipment to fight both of them.

Whenever possible, INA also scavenged a lot of captured British small arms from the few territories annexed by the Japanese military and donations from Singapore Royal Artillery.
