How did the approach of the son-in-laws changed towards their father-in-law when they came to know about the lapse of the insurance premium?

The approach of son in laws changed towards the father in laws because Abbel Merry Weather whom they thought was dead did not pay the insurance and premium. So Ben Jordan started telling Merry Weather as a drunken fellow because as he was no more Slater and Jordan had to pay them
