The Dhangars used to graze their flocks in the central plateau during the monsoon when it was full of lush green pastures. After the monsoon they moved westwards towards Konkan, where they had good relationships with the farmers who allowed them to graze their flocks in their harvested fields. In turn, the animals fertilized their fields. This made the fields ready for the next sowing season.
